All About Faerie Fruit: Extended Edition

Faerie Fruit - Banner

On August 21, 2024, Charlotte E. English is returning to Berrie-on-the-Wyn with the release of Faerie Fruit: Extended Edition. This is the story that kicked off her Wonder Tales collection in 2016, now reimagined with exclusive art and bonus content.

Faerie Fruit also marks Campfire’s first foray into extended edition books, which leverage the Campfire reading app’s unique ability to include bonus content alongside an eBook.

What is Faerie Fruit?

Faerie Fruit is a Regency Era cozy fantasy book heavily inspired by the English classics and old-fashioned fairy tales. If you’re a fan of Jane Austen, Robin McKinley, or Olivia Atwater, you probably have an idea of what I’m talking about already.

From the author of the Tales of Aylfenhame comes a stunning new fairy tale, replete with "large helpings of wit and whimsy" (Publishers Weekly)

When the centuries-barren orchards of Berrie-on-the-Wyn suddenly bear fruit, it is clear that something strange is afoot — and something fey, for this is no ordinary harvest. To partake of the fruits of Faerie is to be changed for good, but not necessarily for the better.

Whence come the golden apples, the moonlit silver pears? Who is the motley piper who walks the streets of Berrie, drawing forth magic and mayhem with his music? And how can half of the town vanish into thin air?

There may be chaos aplenty in Berrie, but all that's needed to set things straight is a touch of the right light — and maybe just the right pair of Boots…

Faerie Fruit - Extended Edition

What’s in the Faerie Fruit: Extended Edition?

In addition to the original eBook, Campfire worked with Charlotte to create a ton of bonus content for this edition of Faerie Fruit.

A New Short Story by Charlotte E. English

Charlotte wrote a brand new short story for this edition of Ferie Fruit. I recently had a chance to chat with her about it and this is what she said (no spoilers):

“‘The Bootmaker of Berrie Wynweald’ embellishes the original tale with what we might call some deleted scenes. We meet Theodosius again, who's on the trail of an unusual book (as always!). But mostly, we're getting to know Verity Wilkin, a minor character in the original book but whose work as a shoemaker is vital to the story. This is the tale of how she came to create a certain pair of waywardly magical Boots…”

In addition to Charlotte’s new short story, the extended edition includes 35 character profiles, 22 location entries, and more. You’ll unlock access to these bonuses as you read the book—so once you meet Theodosius you’ll be able to learn even more about him and check out his artwork.

Exclusive Art by Cole Field & Elsa Kroese

Speaking of art, there’s a lot! This edition of Faerie Fruit has 9 character portraits, 8 location thumbnails, a map, and more. All of it was illustrated by Cole Field and Elsa Kroese, both of whom worked closely with Charlotte to make sure that they made everything just as she imagined it. That was important since Charlotte had a clear vision of what everything should look like going into this project.

“I'm a visual thinker and have colourful, detailed internal images for everything I write, and the town of Berrie has been living in my mind in great detail since I wrote the book. There's a clear feel to the world—a cosy, sunny, warming atmosphere—that was really important to get across with the art, together with the characters' personalities and the historical flavour of the world. The new art is doing a beautiful job of all three, and it was a real pleasure seeing it all come together.”
