Review: Chronos Warlock by Shami Stovall

Blurb:

Adair Finch, the most powerful warlock in the world, is back in business!

But first he must complete his pact with a mischief spirit by finding her a human body. Seemingly no easy task, as the mischief spirit is beyond picky about her future body. But on his way to Oakland, Finch stumbles upon the dead body of a social media star—both a solution and a major problem.

Oakland is teeming with werewolves, full moon witches, vampires, and redwood elves, most of whom aren’t on good terms with Finch. Navigating the supernatural world to gather clues about the murder is hard enough, but now Finch must also dodge old enemies and rivals. And to make matters worse, the murderer just might be trailing Finch, now that he’s found the body.

Good thing Finch has a pact with Chronos. With time on his side, perhaps he can do the impossible…

Continue this urban fantasy series in the second book of the Chronos Chronicles!

Review:

Chronos Warlock by Shami Stovall

Adair Finch returns in style in the second book of this amazing series! I fell in love with Finch in the first novel and my admiration of him just continued to grow and grow as this novel progressed. Many of the same characters returned, but the stakes seemed to be even higher as once again the reader is immediately immersed into what is going on. The promises that were made are being fulfilled early and the results are extremely fun as well as new twists in a unique urban fantasy that should be taking the world by storm. There is a lot going on in this novel with new characters as well as the return of many of the favorites from the first novel. There are some interesting developments that raise the stakes for the world that has been introduced and I am eager to see where the story could go as everything continues. There are so many mysteries and hints that I have discovered through the series that I am constantly compelled to keep reading if only to discover the secrets that constantly seem just out of reach. That doesn’t mean that there are no answers, just more and more layers to discover to find out the history as well as the future of what is to come.

The strength is most definitely the characters. There is humor, heart, and so much more within each of them. It is hard to pick a favorite in this one. Each of the characters has a chance to shine in this sequel that bleeds with emotion. The promise to the mischief spirit in the first book is fulfilled at the beginning of the novel and it sets off a very interesting mystery and story that builds upon itself page after page until a very satisfying conclusion. The more that I read about these characters and the world that the author has created has me craving more and more. I believe that this is a series that belongs with all of the great urban fantasies. Once again, the fact of repeating time is masterfully handled in that it does not feel repetitive in the least. The idea of social media and how it is portrayed was something that was a highlight for me as well. I  hope that we continue to experience all of the characters, even with some of the developments. It does seem to have put down its roots and cemented its place as one that will have a long time running as we explore the magical world of Adair Finch.

I am constantly impressed with Shami Stovall and the ease with which the story unfolds, still with a complexity to the story that is incredibly unique. I am excited to delve into the worlds and tales that she has created with the utmost care, especially with the way that the characters leap off of the page and into the minds of readers. The world of Adair Finch is one that is familiar and yet is different in many ways. There is a lot to love and I urge all fans of magic, urban fantasy, and incredible story telling to look into this series that will become a fan favorite. I, for one, hope that there are a lot of entries into this series that has quickly become a favorite of mine. I am sure that I am not alone.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review. As always, happy reading and Stay Great!!
